Literature Text

once, we walked beneath the telephone wires, hand in hand
counting the houses strung with twinkling lights
and watching the color get caught in the silent, untouched snow
you told me there was nothing more beautiful
then the way the lights illuminated my face, and cast shadows on my hair
and I’d just smile, and walk along beside you
stealing glances and wishing that I knew how to glow like you

and sometimes, I stand under the mistletoe and wonder what it is that’s keeping you from meeting me halfway
something for the holidays
